About Wernigerode

Wernigerode - the colourful town in the Harz.

The popular town of Wernigerode, with its historic town centre and the meticulously restored and colourful half-timbered houses, is located on the northern edge of the Harz. The town hall in the marketplace, the crooked house, the smallest house and the oldest house are just some of the characteristics that make up the rich timbered - frame town of Wernigerode.

Particularly interesting are the remains of the city fortifications, the "Krummelsche House", whose front facade is completely covered with carved wooden images and of course, Castle Wernigerode®, which stands majestically over the town. Learn about the 800-year history of counts and princes in Wernigerode and view some of the rooms that have been original restored. The Castle Gardens (garden terrace and pleasure gardens) is part of the country's project Gartentraeume (Garden of Dreams).

To see the harz in a day, visit the Miniature Park, "Little Harz" in Wernigerode Buergerpark (Public Park).

Learn some interesting facts at the Museum of Aviation and Technology, in the old forge Krellschen Schmiede anno 1678, and at the museum Schiefes Haus

If you wish to explore the beautiful Harz countryside and the surroundings of Wernigerode as well as the legendary Mount Brocken in a unique way, then combine your tour with a trip on the historic steam locomotive of the Harz Narrow-Gauge railways.
